The 2010 Sloan Survey of Online Learning reveals that almost 5.6 million students in over 2,500 colleges are enrolled in online educational programs and the number has risen by 1 million students last year.
With many schools offering online degree programs, even people residing in rural areas have a lot of educational options. The economic downturn has resulted in increased demand for online education degrees.
For instance, Upper Iowa University is now offering the students an option for on campus college degrees, online education degrees or a blended course. Northcentral Technical College is also offering online law degrees, online marketing degrees as well as other online educational programs in accounting, business, HR or healthcare among others. In 2009, the school also launched an online MBA program.
Other colleges like Wausau, Rasmussen and Global University are also offering online college education along with traditional college degrees.
